Jeffrey M. Langley was a dedicated Fire Fighter Paramedic (FFPM) with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD), serving in the Air Operations unit. Tragically, on March 30, 1993, at the age of 28, he lost his life during a rescue mission in Topanga State Park.

Langley was assisting in the recovery of a hiker who had fallen to his death near Eagle Rock in the Trippett Ranch area. After the initial rescue, the helicopter crew returned to retrieve equipment that had slid down the canyon. While preparing another paramedic for descent, Langley fell 50 to 70 feet from the helicopter.

Langley was known for his meticulous approach to safety and his commitment to the department. He was also featured in a training film on air-rescue techniques and had a brief appearance in the 1992 movie “Lethal Weapon III.” To honor his memory, “The Aviator” sculpture was re-dedicated on March 24, 2023, at the LACoFD’s Barton Heliport in Pacoima, marking the 30th anniversary of his passing.
